Does Stephen Hawking Dream That He Can Run?
In the belief that her intellect would finally be fully served and her life complete, Joann traveled to Cambridge University to see Stephen Hawking. Even a brief glimpse would satisfy her. She located the building where, reportedly, he kept his academic office and she waited outside patiently for eight rainy, cold days. He never appeared and she left England sadly disappointed. By the next Fall, drinking sherry in front of her fireplace at home in Naperville, she started to believe that she might have seen him after all. And if, perhaps her memory was faulty, she could, at least, bask in the glow of having seen the ramp built to accommodate his motorized wheelchair.
